Lasiophthicus novus Rondani, 1857 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1857: 138 (key), 140 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “in collibus … et … in apennino ditionis parmensi [Parmese hills … and … Apennines ( Italy)]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype ( MZUF: Box 5): Lasiophticus [sic!] Rnd. / novus Rndn. / 228 / Lectotypus [not designated] Lasiophthicus novus Rondani , design. C. Kassebeer, 1992.

PARALECTOTYPES NOT EXAMINED: 1 ♀ (head glued to a cardboard stage numbered 228) ( MZUF: Box 5): Lasiophticus [sic!] Rnd. / novus Rndn. / 228 / Paralectotypus [not designated] Lasiophthicus novus Rondani , design. C. Kassebeer, 1992; 1 ♀ ( MZUF: Box B): Lasiophticus [sic!] Rnd. novus Rnd. , 78, Apenn. [= Apennines] / 393 78; 1 ♂ ( MZUB: Box 321): 20 77 / Lasiophticus [sic!] novus Rond. , ex Parma / novus Rndn. , ♂ ♀, Parma; 1 ♀ ( MZUB: Box 321): 20 78 / Lasiophticus [sic!] novus Rond. , ex Parma.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Xanthogramma laetum ( Fabricius, 1794) ( Peck 1988: 51, Belcari et al. 1995a: 8, Nedeljković et al. 2018: 9).

REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 140) described both sexes of Lasiophthicus novus without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths, but presumably from more than one specimen because he indicated: “ non raro speciem hanc legi [I not rarely collected this species]”. Christian F. Kassebeer examined the MZUF type material without publishing any paper ( Speight & Sommaggio 2010: 140). Nedeljković et al. (2018: 9) designated a lectotype (♂) in the MZUF but did not mention an additional four specimens: two females in the MZUF and one male and one female in the MZUB (all are paralectotypes). Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Lasiophthicus , which is an “unjustified emendation of Lasiopthicus Rondani, 1845 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 102).
