CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Senotainia Macquart, 1846 ( Verves 1986: 66) View in CoL ; junior synonym of Senotainia albifrons (Rondani, 1859) View in CoL ( Pape 1988: 13, 1996: 134); junior synonym of Senotaina (Sphixapata) puncticornis (Zetterstedt, 1859) ( Povolný & Verves 1997: 63) .
REMARKS: Rondani (1865c: 217) described both sexes of Sphixapata piligena without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens, but he presumably had more than one specimen because he wrote: “ non rara [not rare]”. Pape (1988: 13) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (4 ♂♂, 3 ♀♀), but did not mention an additional male in the OUMNH (this additional specimen is a paralectotype).
