Exorista cognata Rondani, 1859 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 122 (key), 144 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus agri parmensis [ Parmese hills ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 3 ♂♂, syntypes (one covered with mold, missing right mid- and left hind-legs; one covered with mold and missing right mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 13): Exorista Mgn / cognata Rnd. / 649; 1 ♂, syntype ( MSNPV: Box 97): Exorista cognata Rnd. , 385, ♂, Parma.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Phebellia nigripalpis (Robineau-Desvoidy, 1847) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 186) .
REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 144) described Exorista cognata from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths: “ Rarissimo lectus mas [the male collected very rarely]”. We found four male syntypes in this study. Two females numbered “649” in the MZUF are not included in the type series because of their sex.
