ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 120 (key), 137 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agro Parmensi [ Parmese territory ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 3 ♂♂, syntypes (one missing abdomen, left fore-, both mid-, and right hind-legs; one covered with mold, missing mid-legs; one slightly covered with mold), 3 ♀♀, syntypes (one missing right mid-leg; one slightly covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 13): Exorista Mgn / falenaria Rnd. / 639; 1 ♂, syntype (missing left hind-leg), 1 ♀, syntype (missing left wing and all left legs) ( MZUF: Box E): Exorista falenaria R., 228, ♂ ♀, Parma / 393 228; 1 ♂, syntype ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Exorista falenaria Rnd. 44 ♂ ♀ Parma / Coll. CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Carcelia falenaria ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 216, Pape et al. 1995: 21, Cerretti 2010: 221); valid species as Carcelia (Euryclea) falenaria ( O’Hara et al. 2020: 306) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 137) described both sexes of Exorista falenaria without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, but from more than one specimen because he stated: “ legitur … primo verre et tempore autumnali [collected … in spring and autumn]”. We found ten syntypes in this study.
