Frontina fugax Rondani, 1861 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861e: 37 (key), 40 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Liguria, vel in Pedemontio [ Ligura as well as Piedmont ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype ( MZUF: Box 15): Prosopina [sic!] Rnd. / fugax Rnd. , ♀, Alpi / 774 .
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Bessa parallela ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 143, O’Hara et al. 2020: 382).
REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 40) described Frontina fugax from a single female: “ Unicum individuum faemineum in collection Mussino inveni [I found a single female specimen in Mussino’s collection]”. Giuseppe Mussino collected both in Piedmont and in Liguria. Herting (1969: 194) reported one female in the MZUF. We consider this latter as the holotype. Rondani placed this nominal species under the subgenus Prosopea Rondani, 1861 , which is currently considered as a valid genus ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 151).
