ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1865a: 128.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Apennino [ Apennines ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUF: Box 1): Volucella Gffr. / incestuosa Rnd., Apenn. [= Apennines] / 21.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Volucella bombylans (Linnaeus, 1758) ( Peck 1988: 129) .
REMARKS: Rondani (1865a: 128) described Volucella incestuosa from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. We found one syntype in this study.
