ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 79.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Valdivia [ Valdivia (southern Chile)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUN: Box Coll. entomol. extra-europea, Fam. Tabanidei - Gen. Agelanius Coenura ): Agelanius meridianus Rnd. , Chili [= Chile] / M. Zool. N° 10931 / Genotype Agelanius Rond. / Syn. Dasibasis anachoreta ♀ (Phil.), det. C.B. Philip 1957.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Dasybasis meridiana ( Fairchild 1971: 43) View in CoL ; valid species ( Coscarón & Papavero 2009: 58).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 79) described Agelanius meridianus from just the female sex without specifying the exact number of specimens and giving a single measurement of length, from material received from R.A. Philippi. Costa (1866: 39) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “898”. Philip (1965a: 121), Coscarón & Philip (1967: 205) and Fairchild (1971: 39) reported a single type (♀) in the MZUN. We also found one syntype in this study.
