Silvius nubipennis Rondani, 1851
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1851: 371.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ regioni equatoriali dell’America, principalmente nelle vicinanze del Rio Napo [ Equatorial regions of ( South ) America, mainly in the vicinity of Napo River]” ( Rondani 1851: 357) .
TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, unplaced to genus of Tabanidae ( Fairchild 1971: 108, Coscarón & Papavero 2009: 148).
REMARKS: Rondani (1851: 371) described Silvius nubipennis , without specify either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material collected by Osculati (1850) during his journey through equatorial South America. Osculati (1850: 240) named but did not describe the species. Fairchild (1971: 108), Leonardi et al. (1995: 148) and Mazzotti (2011: 166) reported the Osculati collection in Milan as destroyed. We also did not find any material during this study.
