Pipizella sculpeonata Rondani, 1865 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1865a: 139.
TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but presumably it is Italy because the work deals with Italian species .
TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study. See Remarks.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Heringia heringii (Zetterstedt, 1843) ( Peck 1988: 83) ; junior synonym of Trichopsomyia flavitarsis ( Meigen, 1822) ( Claussen et al. 1994: 324) View in CoL .
REMARKS: Rondani (1865a: 139) described Pipizella sculpeonata from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. We were unable to locate any type material of this nominal species in our study. Goeldlin de Tiefenau (in Claussen et al. 1994: 324) incorrectly designated a male numbered “330” in the MZUF (Box 7) as lectotype. A MZUF female numbered “330” and labeled “Asch [1]870.6” is not included in the type series because it was collected at Asch [= Aš, Czech Republic] by F. Kowarz and later donated to Rondani (Claussen & Thomson 1996: 280).
