Therevidae View in CoL View at ENA
This worldwide but predominantly Australasian family of Asiloidea flies ( Marshall 2012) contains 1,185 species ( Evenhuis & Pape 2020). Rondani (1863) originally described one South American species in the family Scenopinidae (which was subsequently placed in Therevidae ), considered as valid, and proposed a new replacement name for a species previously described and named by P.J.M. Macquart, currently considered a junior synonym ( Hardy 1966 b, Kelsey 1969, Holston 2004, Webb et al. 2013). The type material is in the MZUN.
