ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1862d: 59.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Alpibus Insubriae … in Pedemontio [Insubrian (= Lombardy) Alps … Piedmont ( Italy)]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (missing right mid- and hind-legs) (MZUF: Box 18): Omalostoma Rnd. / fortis Rnd ., ♂ / 969; 1 ♀, syntype (MRSN): Omalostoma Desv. fortis Rond. , ♀; 2 ♀♀, syntypes (MRSN): 21 64 / Omalostoma Desv. fortis Rond. , ♀.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Billaea fortis ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 358, Pape et al. 1995: 28, O’Hara et al. 2009: 27, Cerretti 2010: 430, O’Hara et al. 2020: 32).

REMARKS: Rondani (1862d: 59) described both sexes of Omalostoma fortis without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths: “ Uterque sexus collectionis meae olim a Clar. De Cristofori missus, … Nuper vero foeminam observavi … captam a Prof Bellardi [Both sexes in my collection formerly sent by Mr. De Cristofori, … Recently however I observed the female collected by Prof. Bellardi]. O’Hara et al. (2009: 27) reported syntypes of both sexes only in the MZUF. We found four syntypes in this study.
