ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1862d: 167 (key), 171 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agri parmensis [ Parmese territory ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one missing left wing and left mid-leg, the other its left mid- and both hind-legs) ( MZUF: Box 11): Ptilops Rnd. / adolescens Rnd. , ♂ / 550; 1 ♀, syntype (covered with mold, missing right fore- and left mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box 11): Ptilops Rnd. / adolescens Rnd. , ♀ / 550; 1 ♀, syntype (missing all but thorax and one leg) ( MZUF: Box 11): Ptilops Rnd. / adolescens Rnd. , ♀ / 295 / 550.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Dufouria chalybeata ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 394, O’Hara et al. 2020: 92).

REMARKS: Rondani (1862d: 171) described both sexes of Ptilops adolescens without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths. We found four syntypes in this study.
