Dendrolaelaps (Dendroseius) Karg, 1965: 297 .

Dendrolaelaps (Dendroseius) .—Karg, 1971: 317.

Dendroseius .— Lindquist, 1975: 12; Shcherbak, 1980: 172.

Type species: Dendrolaelaps scotarius Sheals, 1958 , by original designation (objective junior synonym of Digamasellus reticulatus Sheals, 1956 ).

Diagnosis. Movable digit of chelicerae with three teeth in addition to the apical tooth; deutosternum with seven roughly transverse rows, first row smooth, rows 2–7 with fine denticles; podonotal shield with j2 not transversely aligned with j1 and z1; anterior margin of opisthonotal shield without central incision, except D. amoliensis that has four small incisions, Z5 longest among dorsal setae. Adult female with r4 and r5 on soft cuticle along lateral margins of podonotal shield, and r3 on peritrematic shield or on this soft cuticle; Jv 5 and Zv1 on soft cuticle along margins of ventrianal shield, except D. amoliensis which has Zv3 on soft cuticle; spermathecal tube opening distally on base of coxa IV. Adult male without oblique incisions in the anterior margin of ventrianal shield. Deutonymph with s1, s2, r2 –5 on soft cuticle along lateral margins of podonotal shield, R -series on soft cuticle along lateral margins of opisthonotal shield; Jv1, Jv 5, Zv1 –Zv 3 on soft cuticle along margins of ventrianal shield. Peritremes extending anteriorly to level of between posterior margin of coxa II and anterior margin of coca III in adult, and to level of between z1 and s 1 in deutonymph.

Remarks on the genus. Dendroseius is very similar to Oligodentatus Shcherbak , but in the latter the deutosternum has six roughly transverse rows of denticles, the spermathecal tube opens distally on the base of coxa III, and setae r4 and r5 are on podonotal shield. Digamasellus Berlese and Orientolaelaps Bregetova & Shcherbak are also characterised by three teeth on the movable digit. They are easily distinguishable from Dendroseius and Oligodentatus because Digamasellus does not have scleronodules and Orientolaelaps has six deutosternal rows, the sixth row does not extend laterally, the tectum does not have three prongs, r4 and r5 are on the podonotal shield, and the adult male has st 5 set on sternogenital shield instead of on a pair of independent, triangular plates.
