Type specimens: Holotype: male, CHINA: Baihualing, Longyang (98°47΄E, 25°18΄N), Yunnan Province, alt. 1500–1600m, 14. VIII. 2006, Zhonghua Fan leg.. Paratypes: 6 males, ditto, 11–13. VIII. 2006, Weibing Zhu and Ming Li leg; 3 females, ditto, alt. 1500–1600m, 13–15. VIII. 2006, Ming Li and Pengzhi Dong leg.; 2 females, CHINA: Longling County (98°41΄E, 24°35΄N), Yunnan Province, alt. 1300m, 13. Diagnosis: Recognized by shining yellowish brown body, vertex width 1.1–1.4 times eye width, antennal segment I length 2.2–2.4 times vertex width, antennal segment II yellowish brown, apical portion black only, length as 2.2 times head width (included eyes), scutellum reddish brown, lateral margin with pale yellowish white semicircle spot, femur yellowish brown, with two red rings. Similar in habitus to C. parviceps , but C. splendus with body shining, scutellum reddish brown with pale yellowish white semicircle spots, and male genitalia distinctively different from the former.
Description: Body oval, shining, yellowish brown to reddish brown, covered with pale setae.
Head projected, shining; vertex without spots. Clypeus reddish brown, with sparse short setae. Eyes reddish brown. Antennae with dense pale pubescence, segment I reddish brown, cylindrical, slightly narrowed at base; segment II pale yellowish brown, apical portion blackish brown; segment III and IV yellowish brown, apical portion blackish brown. Labium reddish brown, extending to mesocoxa. Pronotum shining, with punctures; collar smooth, reddish brown, posterior margins blackish brown; calli reddish brown, shining, merged anteriorly, slightly raised, with a hollow near each anterolateral margin; with a large yellowish white spot behind each callus; posterior margins concavely sinuate. Scutellum ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ) dark reddish brown, without punctures, lateral margin with pale yellowish white semicircle spot. Hemelytron reddish brown, shining, covered with coarse reddish brown punctures; membrane pale brown, veins reddish brown. Leg yellowish brown, apical portion of femur with two red rings, tarsus and claw blackish brown. Venter blackish brown, with dense pale pubescence. Ostiolar peritreme pale yellow.
Male genitalia: Left paramere ( Figs. 48, 49 View FIGURES 48 – 54 ) strong, sensory lobe elevated thumblike, with sparse setae, hypophysis depressed, apical portion with two hooks; right paramere ( Figs. 50, 51 View FIGURES 48 – 54 ) stout, apical portion bent, apex sharp; vesica ( Figs. 53, 54 View FIGURES 48 – 54 ) with membranous lobes and 4 sclerotized appendages.
Distribution: China (Yunnan).
Etymology: Named for the shining body and resplendent color of scutellum.
