5. P. longipennis View in CoL group
Species: P. aeneithorax , P. assamensis , P. longipennis , P. longispinus , P. violaceus , P. sumatranus .
Characteristics: (1) frons, vertex and median occipital sclerite black; (2) scutum at least partly but usually entirely black with bluish metallic sheen; (3) wings almost hyaline but apex darkened in some species; (4) R2+3 starting at crossvein R-M, slightly longer than Rs, radial triangle (r2+3) only slightly lower than crossvein R-M is long, relatively broadly opened distally, crossvein M-Cu absent ( Figs 42–43 View FIGURES 42 – 49. 42 – 43 ); (5) M3 straight, parallel to M2 and postcubitus (CuP) unpigmented, hyaline, often indistinct; (6) male epandrium usually rounded and markedly convex, surstyli usually developed but fused with hypoproct ventrally, genital capsule rounded or subquadrate, with conspicuous inner or outer posterior projections, medial process of genital capsule unusually long or relatively short but always bipartite, gonostylus tapered and inwardly curved in distal part, aedeagal complex slender and bipartite at least apically, gonocoxal apodeme extending proximal margin of genital capsule only in P. longispinus .
Remarks: The dark and metallic shining scutum seems to be characteristic for members of this group except for P. longispinus which is also missing the long inner posterolateral projections of the genital capsule and P. sumatranus with reduced inner process on the pedicel. The darkened wing apex is usually present but absent in P. aeneithorax and P. assamensis . The male terminalia of the former species are highly specific with their subquadrate casing for the distal part of the aedeagal complex. P. assamensis seems to be closely related to it though only the female is known.
