Diagnosis. Lucaina milleri can be easily identified among other Lucaina by the shortened labrum with curved mandibles ( Fig. 13 View Figs ), the yellowish elytra with the apical half to 2/3 black, the pronotum completely black ( Figs. 7 View Figs , 13 View Figs ), and the male genitalia with the median lobe slightly shorter than the parameres with a narrowed apex ( Fig. 21 View Figs ).

Description of Adult. Width across humeri 1.4–1.8 mm; elytral length 4.3–5.6 mm. Dorsal color predominantly black, elytra yellowish, with half or 2/3 of apical portion black and pronotum completely black ( Fig. 7 View Figs ). Head prolonged in short rostrum, with coronal longitudinal sulci more or less prominent ( Fig. 13 View Figs ). Mandibles short, slightly curved, connate to transverse, shortened labrum. Maxillary palpomere IV and labial palpomere III longer than wide. Antennae subserrate, slightly dorsoventrally flattened, inserted below eyes. Antennomere I subconical, elongate, as long as III, antennomere II about half length of I, antennomere III slightly shorter than I, broad, IVabout 1/4 shorter than III, V subequal to IV, antennomeres VII–XI gradually decreasing in length. Pronotum as long as wide, thin margins slightly pronounced, angles rounded, with a pair of subtle oblique elevations arising from posterior lateral margins of pronotum. Elytra subparallel, densely punctate, lateral margins stout, elytral costae indistinct, pubescence decumbent. Male genitalia with median lobe slightly shorter than parameres, apex of median lobe narrowed, acuminate; parameres parallel-sided in basal portion, fusiform in apical portion, ventral base of parameres elongate, about 1/3 total length of parameres ( Fig. 21 View Figs ).

Female. Unknown.

Biology. Lucaina milleri was collected on Erigonum inflatum Torrey ( Polygonaceae ) and mesquite flowers ( Prosopis ) ( Fig. 24 View Figs ).

Distribution. California, USA and Baja California, Mexico ( Fig. 26 View Figs ).

Etymology. This species is named in honor of the lycid systematist Richard Stuart Miller.
