It is a mountain declining subspecies, spread in the Pyrenees and the Cantabrian Range, between 1400 and 2150 m ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 ) ( Ornosa & Ortiz-Sánchez 2004, Santamaría et al. 2011). In the past, 69 individuals were recorded ( Ornosa 1984; Castro pers. comm.).

B. mendax latofasciatus is a very rare ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ) and threatened subspecies ( Table 2 View TABLE 2 ), only collected once in the last eight years in the Pyrenees, in the National Park Aigüestortes and St. Maurici lake (Ornosa & Torres 2009) and in the Cantabrian Range (Picos de Europa), where 15 individuals were collected in July, 2008 (Asturias, the Bastards, Jou) ( Santamaría et al. 2011). It was assessed as Endangered (EN) in the IUCN Spanish Red List (Ornosa & Torres 2009).
