Bombus barbutellus (Kirby, 1802) View in CoL

Eurosiberian species sparsely distributed by the Iberian Peninsula, spread mainly across the Cantabrian Range and the Pyrenees, between 1345 and 2100 m high, entering also into further south, and foraging preferably on species of Asteraceae , Dipsacaceae and Fabaceae ( Ornosa & Gayubo 1989) . B. barbutellus is a social parasite on B. hortorum and B. ruderatus , however in others areas B. hypnorum has been recorded as an alternative host ( Løken 1984, Rasmont 1988).

It has not been found in the Pyrenees in recent samplings ( Table 3 View TABLE 3 ), where only six individuals were found in the past. It was assessed as Least Concern in the IUCN Red List of European Bees (Rasmont et al. 2015), it is estimated that B. barbutellus would suffer considerably from climatic warming.
