Previously recorded from southern Mexico to Ecuador, including the Costa Rican provinces of Guanacaste and Puntarenas ( Esaki 1926b; Drake & Harris 1928b, 1934; Hungerford 1937; Kuitert 1942; Drake & Roze 1954; Matsuda 1961a; Polhemus & Polhemus 1995; Aristizábal 2002; Padilla-Gil & Nieser 2003; Molano et al. 2005, 2008; Buzzetti 2006; Posso & González 2008; Morales & Castro 2010). This species is herein recorded from Alajuela and Limón provinces for the first time. In Costa Rica, P. horvathi is found on the riffles of lotic habitats along the Atlantic and Pacific slopes, up to 300 m a.s.l.
