Previously recorded from Belize and Guatemala to Ecuador, including the Costa Rican provinces of Alajuela and Puntarenas (Champion 1898; Torre-Bueno 1906, 1926; Drake & Harris 1934; Kuitert 1942; Nieser 1970; Roback & Nieser 1974; Calabrese & Tallerico 1987; Manzano et al. 1995; Aristizábal 2002; Padilla-Gil & Nieser 2003; Camacho & Molano 2005; Molano et al. 2005, 2008; Rivera & Camacho 2006; Morales & Molano 2009; Morales & Castro 2013; Padilla-Gil 2013b; Damgaard et al. 2014; Mondragón et al. 2017). In Costa Rica, T. opacus is found in forests on small puddles close to rivers, although never in the riffles. It was collected along the Atlantic and Pacific slopes, up to 1,200 m a.s.l, and is herein recorded for the first time from Guanacaste, Limón, and San José provinces.
