This is a large and widespread genus. Curry and Curry (1971) provide a list of species from the Virgin Islands. We found larvae on St. Thomas in the lower, more polluted portions of Turpentine Run ghut, Raphune Hill ghut, and at the University of the Virgin Islands in stagnant water from recycle bins and an ornamental pond at the EPSCoR office building. We also found specimens in the decaying vegetation at the springhead of Spring Road ghut.
