Enallagma coecum (Hagen, 1861)

The most common coenagrionid damselfly on St. Thomas. We collected this blue to violet species primarily from ponds, at Magens Beach, Red Hook Salt Pond, the water hazards at the golf courses on the UVI campus and Mahogany Run, Bolongo and Fortuna ponds, the turtle pond in Dorothea, an impoundment in a ghut along Donoe Road, Tillet Gardens ornamental ponds, and on the UVI Campus in a small ornamental water garden. Additionally, we found E. coecum in quiet pools along Mahogany Run ghut, and at an ornamental water garden on Water Island. This species has been previously reported from St. Thomas, St. John, Puerto Rico, and Cuba ( Medina Gaud and Martorell 1974; Donnelly 2002; Ramírez et al. 2020). This is the first record from Water Island.
