Type Locality: Guatemala, Alta Verapaz Dept., Cobán.
Vernacular Names: Short-tailed Singing Mouse.

Distribution: Intermediate elevations of Middle America from E Oaxaca, México, to W Panamá.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Level of differentiation and status of populations north ( teguina ) and south ( irazu ) of the Nicaraguan Depression merit reconsideration. Hooper (1972) recognized four subspecies.
