Rhinoppia emarginata View in CoL sp.nov.

Measurements [n= 10]. Body length: 348–404 (holotype: 396) μm, body width: 178–212 (holotype: 212) μm. Prodorsum ( Figs. 6 View FIGURE 6 A, 7) Rostrum emarginated; with the end arcuately cut out in the middle. Rostral setae (ro) smooth, 29 μm in length. Between rostral setae a longitudinal grove present. Lamellar setae (le) thin, smooth, 8 μm in length. Interlamellar setae (in) thick, 20 μm in length. Exobothridial setae (ex) smooth. Distance between setae le and in shorter than that between setae ro and le. Bothridia round. Sensilli (ss) long (90 μm in length), asymmetric pectinate bilaterally.

Notogaster ( Figs. 6 View FIGURE 6 A, 7A). Oval shaped, anterior border convex. Ten pairs of notogastral setae present, smooth.

Ventral side ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 B). Pedotectum I (pdI) sharpened. Prodorsum widest at pdI level. Epimeral setal formula 3-1-3-3, setae thin and smooth, mostly 6-7 µm, setae 1c, 3c and 4b slightly longer (ca. 17 µm). Genital plates 32 μm in length, 38 μm in width, with six pairs of setae, all of them smooth. Anal plates 68 μm in length, 60 μm in width, with two pairs of setae. Distance between genital and anal plates 78 μm. One pair of aggenital and three pairs of adanal setae present. The adanal setae ad 1 in postanal, ad 2 in paraanal and ad 3 in preanal positions.

Legs. Formula of setae and solenidia on leg segments (trochanter to tarsus): I (1-5-2+1-4+2-21+2); II (1- 5-2+1-4+1-13+2); III (2-3-1+1-3+1-12); IV (1-2-2-3+1-10). Structure and setation of legs as shown in figures 8 and 9.

Material examined. Holotype and 14 paratypes collected from litter and soil under Corylus avellana , Turkey, Artvin, Arhavi, Şenköy 41°19'10.65" N, 41°20'39.30" E, 90 m, 28 July 1993.

Etymology. The name of new species refers to the emarginated rostrum.

Remarks. The new species resembles Rhinoppia plumata ( Gordeeva & Karppinen, 1988) from Caucasus and Rhinoppia bipectinata ( Akrami & Subías, 2007) from Iran by the shape of sensilli. However, it can be distinguished from them by the following features: 1) rostrum emarginated in the new species (rostrum rounded in R. plumata and R. bipectinata ), 2) exobothridial setae smooth in the new species (exobothridial setae with some barbs in R. plumata and R. bipectinata ), 3) longitudinal ridges absent between setae in and le in the new species (present in R. plumata , absent in R. bipectinata ), 4) epimeral setae smooth in the new species (smooth in R. plumata , epimeral setae 1b, 1c, 3b, 3c, 4b and 4c two branched in R. bipectinata ), 5) setae g1 as long as other genital setae in the new species (setae g1 about twice and three as long as other genital setae in R. bipectinata and R. plumata , respectively).
