Diagnosis. Easily differentiated with its congener, B. sibuyania sp. nov., by the pair of yellow-orange antero-lateral markings on pronotum and red-orange cerci, the quadrate tegmina of the female and the structure of the male genitalia.
Description. Size (mm): ♂ TL: 21. 17 ± 0.66; BL: 15.42 ± 0.82; Hd: 2.63 ± 0.13 × 2.60 ± 0.21; IOD: 0.59 ± 0.1; IAD: 1.05 ± 0.2; MP: 0.65 ± 0.03, 0.78 ± 0.02; 0.76 ± 0.04; Pn: 3.59 ± 0.40 × 5.67 ± 0.58; Tg: 17.85 ± 0.55; ♀ TL: 17.86 ± 0.08; Pn: 3.64 ± 0.54 × 6.83 ± 0.04; Tg: 3.95 ± 0.21.
Male ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 (a)): Vertex slightly exposed. Head black except for light brown anteclypeus ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 (c)). Ocelli present, beside the antennal socket. Pronotum trapezoidal, posterior margin rounded; black, with a pair of yellow-orange anterolateral markings. Tegmina well developed, apically rounded, extending beyond the abdomen. Wings well-developed. Fore femur type A 2 with several elongate setae ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 (e)). Mid and femur with sparsely spined ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 (f–g)). Tarsomeres 1–4, each with distal spines. Tarsomere 4 with pulvilli large, occupying most of the ventral side. Hind metatarsus ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 (f)) distinctly longer than the remaining tarsomeres combined, armed with 2 rows of spine, with minute apical pulvilli. Tarsal claws simple, symmetrical. Arolium present. Hind margin of metathorax with mesal trapezoidal evagination, lateral base of which are deeply excavated. First abdominal tergite with setose gland ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 (d)). Succeeding abdominal tergites unspecialised. Supra-anal plate almost truncate, with mesal indentation, posterolateral corners angular ( Figure 1 View Figure 1 (h)). Cerci elongate, terminally pointed. Subgenital plate symmetrical ( Figure 1 View Figure 1 (i)). Style similarly sized. Male genitalia as illustrated ( Figure 1 View Figure 1 (i)): L2 pointed; L4C with two patches of barb-like structures; L3 hook-like, with distinct sub-apical tooth near the base of the notch; R1H weakly sclerotised except for apex with two teeth-like structure; R1G trifid; R2 bulbous, with deep mesal invagination, anteriorly rounded, inner margin striated. R3 anterior part triangular; L4G (Ventral phallomere) reduced, anterior margin weakly sclerotised.
Female ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 (b)): Similar to males except for the following: Pronotum parabolic, posterior margin almost straight. Tegmina quadrate reaching only up to the hind margin of metathorax. Hindwing reduced to triangular pads with little venation. Supra-anal plate truncate, symmetrical. Subgenital plate valvular.
Distribution. Philippines: Luzon and Mindoro Island.
Ecology. Adults and late instar were usually observed in groups of three or more (a pair and several penultimate nymphs) on dead tree stumps with several cavities, or singly along the bark of trees or lianas. Early instar nymphs are often seen in groups. This species produces a strong pungent scent when disturbed.
