COMMON NAME (S): Tiger Moth.

SYNONYM(S): Expantheria assimilis Ḩbner, 1820; Alpenus aequalis Walker, 1855a ; Expantheria indeterminata Walker, 1855a ; Halesidota macularia Walker, 1865a ; Spilosoma eyralpenus Pl ̂tz, 1880; Alpenus kordofanus Wichgraf, 1922 .

DISTRIBUTION: Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Togo, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

LOCALITY IN ZAMBIA: Chingola, in Copperbelt Province.

LARVAL HOSTPLANT(S): Host plants include: one Sterculiaceae species ( Theobroma cacao L.) in Nigeria ( Lamborn 1914) and two Amaryllidaceae species ( Hippeastrum sp. , and Zephranthes sp.) and one Fabaceae species ( Albizia sp. ) in unnamed African country or countries ( Watson 1989).
