Distribution: C British Columbia ( Canada) south to C California east to C Montana and W Wyoming ( USA).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Neotamias . Reviewed by Sutton (1992, Mammalian Species No. 390). DNA variation and introgressive hybridization between T. amoenus and T. ruficaudus reported by Good et al. (2003) and Demboski and Sullivan (2003).
