Holotype M: Atrato River , Murindó (Antioquia), Colombia ( NMNH) (Type locality here corrected to use the proper accent to "Murindó". Previous record under "Murindo").
Distribution in South America: Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela.
Bibliographic sources: Known life stages and relevant taxonomic and geographical information in Pecor et al. (1992), and Sallum & Forattini (1996). This species was included in the taxonomic revision of the Spissipes Section by Sallum & Forattini (1996). Recent geographical records in Sutil (1980); Dickerman et al. (1986); Walder et al. (1984); Molina et al. (2000); Barrera et al. (2002); Ferro et al. (2008); Suárez-Mutis et al. (2009); Hutchings et al. (2002, 2005, 2011, 2013).
Additional comments: Galindo (1969) stated this species is a potential vector of Bussuquara and Guama viruses.
