Soc. 101 (3): 279, 285, figs 30a (male d, v), 31e (female d, v); holotype female, Cushi, Huánuco, Peru, illustrated by D’Abrera (1987); NHMUK. — Casagrande, 2004. Syn. nov.

Taxonomic history. Opsiphanes sallei colombiana and Opsiphanes sallei kennerleyi were described in the same publication and on the same page. Casagrande (2004) and Blandin et al. (2015) accepted both as subspecies.

Type material. Opsiphanes sallei colombiana Bristow, 1991 was described based on the holotype male, deposited at the NHMUK, with the following labels: / Holotype / Interior of Colombia. Wheeler./ ♂ / Godman-Salvin Coll. 1919.-6./ Opsiphanes sallei colombiaensis [sic] Bristow/.

Opsiphanes sallei kennerleyi Bristow, 1991 was described based on the holotype female, illustrated by D’Abrera (1987) and Bristow (1991), deposited at the NHMUK, with the following labels: / Holotype / Cushi, Huanuco, 1820 m., 1904. (W. Hoffmanns)/ Ops. sallei kennerleyi Bristow/ Rothschild Bequest B.M. 1939-1./.

Diagnosis. Opsiphanes sallei colombiana differs from Opsiphanes sallei sallei and Opsiphanes sallei nicandrus in having the DFW with small spots that comprise the oblique band, making it uneven and discontinuous ( Figs 96–97 View FIGURE 96 View FIGURE 97 ).

Variation. FW, length: male: 42–48 mm (n=4). female: 53 mm (n=1). VHW, shape of the eyespot between Sc+R

1

( Figs 96–97 View FIGURE 96 View FIGURE 97 ).

Comments. The only known specimen of Opsiphanes sallei kennerleyi Bristow, 1991 syn. nov. is the female holotype ( Fig. 105 View FIGURE 105 ), collected within the geographic range of Opsiphanes sallei colombiana . Considering this information, analysis of the type material ( Figs 104–105 View FIGURE 104 View FIGURE 105 ), and the variation in color, width, and arrangement of the spots that form the DHW submarginal band, no characters were found to justify Opsiphanes sallei kennerleyi Bristow, 1991 syn. nov. as a subspecies.

Natural history. Unknown.

Geographic distribution. Colombia (Caldas, Santander) ; Peru (Huánuco, Junín) ( Fig. 102 View FIGURE 102 ) .

Temporal distribution. July, October.

Etymology. Reference to Colombia.
