Type Locality: Ecuador, Mt. Pichincha, Gualea.
Vernacular Names: Bare-tailed Armored Tree-rat.
Distribution: Ecuador and Peru east of the Andes.
Conservation: IUCN – Critically Endangered.
Discussion: Recognized as a distinct species by Emmons and Feer (1990:217) and placed in the genus Makalata by Emmons and Feer (1997:236). Distinction further documented by Emmons (In Press), who placed this taxon in a new genus.
