(Choleva); Portevin, 1907: 73 comb.; Jeannel, 1936: 114 (redescription, male illustrated), 1957: 53 (“ lectotype designation”, not stated as taxonomic change), 1962: 502; Szymczakowski, 1961: 150, 1965: 245, 1970: 330, 1976: 425; Salgado, 1992b: 169, 2005d: 981, 2006: 99, 2017a: 79. No information about types in original description; Lectotype male in MNHN [Grouvelle collection in Portevin, 1907: 71, footnote] (designated by Jeannel, 1957:53 by use of term “type” for a particular syntype specimen [our interpretation, based on Art. 74.5 of ICZN, 1999], without declaring the designation). [Note: Jeannel, 1936 does not give sex or number of type specimens and refers to locality as “Santiago, on bird corpse”, and he illustrates a male; Jeannel, 1957 refers to this specific specimen as “the type”, and cites “ 8 specimens ”].
Type locality: Santiago, on bird corpse [as “Aculeo (33º50’ S)” in Jeannel, 1957], [Santiago Province], Chile.
Distribution: Argentina: Chubut, Neuquén, and Río Negro Provinces; Chile: Aconcagua ( brunneus ), Arauco, Biobío, Cautín, Chiloé ( brunneus ), Concepción ( brunneus ), Linares (AFN, personal data), Llanquihue, Malleco (AFN, personal data), Ñuble, Osorno (AFN, personal data), Quillota (AFN, personal data), Santiago, Talca (AFN, personal data), and Valdivia Provinces.
= E. brunneus Jeannel, 1962: 503 View in CoL ; Salgado, 1992b: 169 syn.? Holotype male [Note: We interpreted that the male Jeannel illustrated in figures is the holotype; he mentions 1 male and 1 female] in MNNC [n° 1353 (SBP, personal data)]. Type locality: Chepu, Isla de Chiloé, [Chiloé Province], Chile.
