Subgenus Adelops Tellkampf

Adelops Tellkampf, 1844: 318 (not Dejean [1833] (nomen nudum in Scarabaeoidea)) (as genus); Jeannel, 1933: 251 syn. and reduced to subgeneric status (not clearly stated as taxonomic change; and referring to all North American species of Ptomaphagus View in CoL listed in Hatch, 1933). Type species: Adelops hirtus Tellkampf View in CoL (monotypy).

Note 2: Jeannel (1949: 96, in key) proposed a system of species groups for this subgenus, which was reorganized in Peck (1973a).
