Metahydnobius Portevin, 1942: 78 . Type species: Hydnobius forticornis Champion (monotypy).
= Hydnobiotus Jeannel, 1962: 492 ; Newton, 1998: 84, 169 syn. Type species: Hydnobiotus bimaculatus Jeannel (orig. des.).
Distribution: Southern Chile, southwestern Argentina.
Note: Genus and its type species overlooked by Jeannel, 1962 ( Newton, 1998: 169).
Biology: Unknown; probably subterranean fungus feeder in litter in forests, found once on bracket fungus on log.
