Range: —Central America; Antilles; northern South America south to Bolivia (BE, CO, LP, SC).
Ecology: —Epiphytic in lowland and mid-elevation humid forests; 0–3000 m.
Notes: —A variable species (grading into P. taxifolius ) with four varieties usually recognized in tropical America. The following two are known from Bolivia:
1 Shortest sporangiate leaves of densely sporangiate divisions usually conform to leaves of basal divisions, or shorter, each usually with a twisted, narrow to slightly broadened laminar base, perpendicular to spreading-ascending, pale, transparently green or brownish green; stems, at least in terminal divisions, usually transparently stramineous to reddish brown, the vascular tissue usually visible through the cortex................................................................................................................................... var. jenmanii View in CoL

Range: —Throughout the Amazonian lowland region, from the Guianas and northern coastal Brazil to Bolivia (LP, SC).
Ecology: —Uncommon; lowland and riverine forests; 100–1000 m.
