Phlegmariurus weddellii (Herter) B.Øllg. Phytotaxa View in CoL 57: 20. 2012. ( Fig. 24)

= Lycopodium weddellii Herter, Bot. Jahrb. Syst. 43(Beibl. 98): 45. 1909.

= Huperzia weddellii (Herter) Holub, Folia Geobot. Phytotax. View in CoL 20: 78. 1985.

Range: —Southern Ecuador to Bolivia (LP).

Ecology: —Rare; terrestrial in exposed habitats in timberline forests and lower shrub páramos; 2600–3900 m.

Notes: — Phlegmariurus weddellii exhibits great plasticity of leaf morphology. It grows in plant communities transitional between forest and páramo, and its growth habit and leaf characters vary accordingly. This intermediacy in habitat and highly variable morphology, found also in P. hippurideus , suggest speculation about the origin of the large group of high Andean species.

A very robust species with thick stems and densely crowded, lanceolate, thick leaves, varying from reflexed to ascending-appressed.
