scientific name

Cladonia digitata (L.) Hoffm.
status

Lichen digitatus Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 1152. 1753, nom. cons.

"Habitat in Europae sylvis sterilibus." RCN: 8235.

Conserved type ( Jørgensen & al. in Taxon 43: 652. 1994): Sweden. Ostrogothia, Stenhammar in Lieh. Suec. Exsicc. No. 195 (UPS).

Current name: Cladonia digitata (L.) Hoffm. ( Cladoniaceae).

Note: See discussion by Jørgensen & al. (in Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 304-305. 1994). The only extant original element is that of Dillenius, which represents Cladonia floerkiana (Fr.) Flörke. In order to avoid a change of name, Jørgensen & al. successfully proposed the conservation of the name with a conserved type.
