Note: Specific epithet spelled “asplenifolia” in the protologue.

See discussion by Fernald (in Rhodora 40: 411, pl. 514, f. 1, 2. 1938) who, however, does not formally choose a type. Reveal & al. in Huntia 7: 223. 1987) did designate " Clayton 684" (BM) as lectotype but no such specimen can be traced and this statement appears to be an error. The name consequently remains untypified.
