Small annual like Salicornia , but flowers free, minute, concealed by the bracts; central flower in each cyme bisexual, the laterals usually pistillate; stamen 1. Seed coat crustaceous. Zn = 18. One sp., M. coralloides (Loscos et Pardo) Buen , Spain, Turkey, Caucasus, Iran.
