Type Locality: Perú, Arequipa Dept., Rinconado Malo Pass, between Cailloma and Calalla, 18,000 ft (5486 m).
Vernacular Names: Lofty Pericote.
Synonyms: Auliscomys leucurus ( Thomas 1919) .
Distribution: Altiplano from S Perú (Ayacucho Dept.), through W Bolivia (3800-4740 m) and adjacent Chile, to NW Argentina (Jujuy and Salta; Díaz, 1999).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Anderson (1997) retained subspecific divisions for Bolivian populations.
