Galeodes olivieri Simon 1879 View in CoL

Simon 1879: 101–102, figs 1–2 (as Galeodes Olivieri E. Simon )

Type locality and specimens. Paraît très-commun dans le sud de l'Algérie; je l'ai reçu en grand nombre de Bou- Saada et de Biskra; L. Dufour le recevait de Boghar; le Muséum en possède de Djeffa et du pays des Touaregs.

Oldest label. Galeodes Olivieri E. S. 1447 , Alg. merid. (probably E. Simon handwriting)

Additionals label. Galeodes olivieri E. Sim. , ex. typis, E. Simon d. 28.IX.1898. Süd-Algier (Kraepelin handwriting).

Type material. Syntypes 1 ♂, 1♀ (ZMH-A0000752).

Taxonomic remarks. Simon had several specimens at the Paris Museum for his descriptions that were available ‘in great number’ from various regions of Algeria (collected by L. Dufour). A lectotype should be designated from this collection. Contra Weidner (1959: 119), the ZMH specimens are not paratypes but syntypes. According to Roewer the species has a wide range encompassing Algeria, the Sahara, Marokko, Tripolis, Mauretania, Senegambia ( Senegal and Gambia) and Togo .

Current systematic position. Galeodidae , Galeodes olivieri Simon 1879 .
