[Vespertilio] albescens E. Geoffroy 1806 View in CoL , Ann. Mus. Natn. Hist. Nat. Paris, 8: 204.

Type Locality: Paraguay, Paraguari, Yaguaron (of neotype).

Vernacular Names: Silver-tipped Myotis.

Synonyms: Myotis argentatus Dalquest and Hall 1947 ; Myotis isidori D’Orbigny and Gervais 1847 ; Myotis leucogaster Schinz 1821 .

Distribution: S Veracruz ( Mexico), Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam, Equador, Peru, Brazil, Uruguay, N Argentina, Paraguay, and Bolivia.

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Includes argentatus ; see LaVal (1973 a). Reviewed in part by López-González et al. (2001). Does not include aenobarbus , which is here placed in Nycticeius following Carter and Dolan (1978); also see Husson (1962). Although I follow Koopman (1993) in listing isidori as a synonym, there are serious problems with idenfication of the holotype; see Carter and Dolan (1978), who suggested that this name might actually belong in Pipistrellus . Does not include mundus; see LaVal (1973 a). Apparently closely related to nigricans , levis , and oxyotus ; see Ruedi and Mayer (2001).
