Philodryas nattereri Steindachner, 1870 View in CoL “Corre-campo, corredeira”

(Figs. 17.4 and 30.1)

It is distributed in all portions of the Caatinga. It was recorded in low and high altitude areas (sea level to 1,100 m elevation) and was abundant and widespread. It is also widely distributed in Cerrado and Pantanal ( Marques et al. 2005; Nogueira et al. 2010, 2011), along most of the South American diagonal of open areas. It is distributed in all phytophysiognomies inside Caatinga, including cerrado enclaves. It seems to occur only marginally in forested habitats. It has semi-arboreal habits, is diurnal, and feeds on vertebrates ( Vitt & Vangilder 1983; Marques et al. 2005; Guedes 2006).
