Orange Free State [Free State Prov.]: Fauresmith Dist., Farm Goedeshoop in Koffiefontein area, along edge of pan, 4000 ft elev., 10 September 1927, Smith 4514 (holotype PRE-0375394-0!), Rabie 14 A, 15 A, 17 A ; syntypes PRE-7086- 0375395!, PRE-7084-0375397!, PRE-7085-0372171!) .

Notes: ―As noted by Bruckner (1951: 215) himself, the original author of the name Salsola humifusa is C.A. Smith, who identified this plant as a new species in 1928 (see a note on the holotype herbarium sheet). C.A. Smith therefore deserves to be listed as one of the name-giving authors.
Distribution: ―South Africa (NC, FS, NW): Upper Karoo, eastern salt pan region of the Free State, Griqualand West.
