Type Locality: Madagascar, Beforona (between Tananarive [= Antananarivo] and Andevoranto).

Vernacular Names: Malagasy Rousette.

Distribution: Madagascar except SW region.

Conservation: IUCN / SSC Action Plan (1992) – Not Threatened. IUCN 2003 – Lower Risk (nt).

Discussion: Subgenus Stenonycteris . Considered a subspecies of lanosus by Hayman and Hill (1977), but see Bergmans (1977). Revised by Peterson et al. (1995). Does not include obliviosus ; see Bergmans (1994), but also see Peterson et al. (1995).
