Diagnosis. Male body length 26.5–38.0 mm. Female body length 29.0– 39.5 mm. Anteocular region from two and one-half to three times as long as postocular region. First antennal segment extending beyond level of apex of clypeus. Pronotum black, with numerous long (0.5 mm) erect hairs. Hemelytra extending to apex of urotergite V or VI, but not beyond; overall color black. Corium with red to orange-red areas, basal triangular mark, and subapical subquadrate mark; with numerous long (0.3–0.4 mm), decumbent setae. Spongy fossulae of fore and mid tibiae absent in both sexes. Abdomen strongly widened. Overall color of connexival segments black, with red or orange red subquadrate or subtriangular markings extending posteriorly over entire width of segment. Pygophore one third wider than longer ( Figs. 8E , 9E ).

Distribution. Mexico: Oaxaca ( Galvão et al. 2003).

Comments. This species is closely related to T. bassolsae , T. mazzottii , and T. pallidipennis ( Rengifo-Correa et al. 2021) . Pattern of coloration of the type specimen can be consulted in figures 56–59 from Rodrigues et al. (2020). For information on hybrids with T. mazzottii see comments of this species. Triatoma phyllosoma hybridize with several species in laboratory ( T. bassolsae , T. longipennis , T. pallidipennis , T. picturata , and T. recurva ; Martínez- Ibarra et al. 2011a, 2015b), but their distributions do not overlap ( Rengifo-Correa et al. 2021). Therefore, absence of wild hybrids is probable, but confirmation needs empirical studies.
