Type Locality: Reported to be Venezuela, Amazonas, upper Rio Orinoco south of the cataracts; but according to Bonvicino et al. (2003 b) does not occur in Venezuela .
Vernacular Names: Red-backed Bearded Saki.
Synonyms: Chiropotes couxio ( Lesson 1840) ; Chiropotes fulvo-fusca ( Trouessart 1897) ; Chiropotes sagulata (Traill 1821) .
Distribution: Guyana, French Guiana, Surinam, Brazil east of the R.Branco.
Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; status not known.
Discussion: A distinct species, not a subspecies of C. satanas , and does not include israelita as a synonym, according to Bonvicino et al. (2003 b).
