Distribution:— TAMIL NADU: Chennai (Madras) ( Kreisel 1992). The German mycologist Dr. Wight collected this species from Chennai and deposited it at the herbarium of Sir W.J. Hooker. Berkeley described this species as Bovista argentea Berkeley (1839: 400) . Kreisel (1992) restudied the holotype and made a comb. nov. as Calvatia argentea ( Berkeley 1839: 400) Kreisel (1992: 434) . However, this species is poorly described and known only from the type ( Kreisel 1992, 1994). Furthermore, molecular data is required for this species to confirm its phylogenetic relationships with other closely related taxa.
