Neonotoporus leiognathi ( Hafeezullah, 1971) Ahmad, 1985 View in CoL
Synonyms: Hamacreadium leiognathi Hafeezullah, 1971 .
Records. From the goldstripe ponyfish, Leiognathus daura (Cuvier) (Leiognathidae) , in the Arabian Sea by Hafeezullah (1971).
Remarks. Madhavi (1975) considered this species a synonym of Horatrema pristipomatis Srivastava, 1942 ( Opecoelinae Ozaki, 1925 ), but Horatrema Srivastava, 1942 was poorly characterised and was synonymised with Notoporus Yamaguti, 1938 by Ahmad (1985). However, Ahmad (1985) considered H. leiognathi to belong in Neonotoporus Srivastava, 1942 . The Stenakrinae is distinguished from the Plagioporinae by the absence of the canalicular seminal receptacle. Hafeezullah (1971) did describe a seminal receptacle but Ahmad (1985) suggested that he had mistaken it for the Mehlis’ gland. The anterior extent of the excretory vesicle was not determined, but the excretory pore was described as sub-terminal, an unusual condition for opecoelids ( Cribb 2005a). Neonotoporus is a reasonable genus for this poorly known species.
