Prostrate or erect herbs to subshrubs, only those individuals growing in the Chapada dos Veadeiros (GO) have a twining habit; leaflets elliptic, oblong, or lanceolate 68× 27 mm; keel petals ca. 14 mm long.

Distribution: — Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil (BA, DF, GO, MG, MS, MT, PR, RS, SC, SP).

Habitat and ecology:—Cerrado biome and higher altitude grasslands interspersed with forests of Araucaria angustifolia (Bertoloni) Kuntze (1895: 375) in southern Brazil (Mata Atlantica biome); usually growing in dry fields with rock outcrops (“campos rupestres”), at elevations of 300–1300 m, on sandy, clay and stony soil.

Notes:—the synonymy presented here under G. neesii is based on a review of the G. neesii - G. martii taxonomic complex by Ceolin & Miotto (2012).

Phenology:— Flowering and fruiting from October to March.
