TYPE SPECIES. — Promesacanthus eppleri n. sp.
ETYMOLOGY. — Pro - before, based on the presence of prepectoral spines which are primitive features in acanthodians, Mesacanthus the genus containing the acanthodiform Mesacanthus mitchelli .
